Shirakaba – A Taste of Japan
in The Berkshires

Youkoso! Welcome!
Two languages and two cultures blend in this Japanese-American guest house, nestled in 21 forested acres high on a bluff in the scenic Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. Already a favorite among New England travelers, Berkshire Shirakaba never ceases to please newcomers, by the peace and serenity surrounding our mini resort. Designed by a Japanese architect, Yoshihiko Sato, it was built in 2000 as a private home and named after its stately white birch trees Shirakaba. Many guests feel their stay at Shirakaba reminds them of Japanese ryokan. The house utilizes geothermal heating/air conditioning and solar energy, winning TripAdvisor’s Platinum Green Award. Sun or snow, our Berkshires year round resort can produce clean, green energy for your comfort and leisure.

Your Personal Resort with Pampered Service

Invest some energy in the indoor heated lap pool; it will come back to you with interest. Saunatec, far infrared sauna is in the pool room. In winter there’s a Sundance 6-person spa by the indoor pool, but when spring arrives it moves outdoors for you to bask under the stars. Stroll a path to the gazebo and gaze from its cliff top at a rumpled rug of hills and vales upholstered in woodland velvet and look up to see more stars than you thought possible.

Enjoy your favorite Berkshires year round resort in any kind of weather. Yes, it does rain here, so sit on the screened porch named the “treehouse” by guests and watch the world get wet. Or browse the shelves of DVDs and enjoy a movie in widescreen. Or work yourself limp with Wii and Wii Fit games. Wireless Internet is yours throughout the guest house.
