You're already here in spirit. Here's how to get here in a car.

From Boston and points east

• Get on I-90, the Mass Turnpike, and head west toward Albany, NY.
• Take Exit 2 at Lee (about 120 miles from Boston). Go through the toll booth and turn right onto Route 20 north. The road soon turns sharp left, then sharp right by a magnificent steepled church, then through downtown Lee to another sharp left. Don't worry; the signs will keep you on Route 20 north through Lenox, where Route 7 joins it.
• Stay on Routes 7 / 20 to downtown Pittsfield (about 11 miles from Exit 2 in Lee). There Route 20 splits off to the left, but you'll continue straight on Route 7 to Park Square in the center of town. It's not a square but an oval, so think of it as a rotary; you'll enter it with a right turn, go a quarter of the way around, and exit onto East Street. Move to the left lane, and turn left at the light, with signs for Route 7 north guiding you all the way. From here on it's easy; just stay on Route 7 north through Lanesborough to New Ashford, about 11 miles from downtown Pittsfield.
• After the "Town of New Ashford" sign, watch for the Snowy Owl Resort on the left, then the America's Best Value Inn on the right. Slow down; Mallery Road is coming up immediately on the left after the Inn, and just before a towering rocky cliff. That's our gazebo at clifftop! Turn left onto Mallery Road, then right at the first driveway. You'll know you're here when you see a huge slab of rock inscribed with "Shirakaba" in Japanese.

From Albany, NY and points west

• Your first leg is to New Lebanon, NY, about 25 miles from Albany if you're a crow; much longer if you're not. Some folks get there via Route 20; it's hilly, rural, mostly two lane — and no fun if you get behind a slow truck. Others prefer the longer but speedier I-90 heading east toward Boston. They take Exit B3, the last exit on I-90 before it becomes the Mass Turnpike, and turn left onto Route 22 north. In 5 or 6 miles, Route 22 merges into Route 20 at the blinker in New Lebanon.
• Whichever route brings you to the blinker, you'll pass through New Lebanon on Routes 20/22 for about a mile, then stay on Route 22 where it splits off to the left. Continue north on Route 22 for another 6 miles to a traffic light in Stephentown, where you'll turn right onto Route 43 toward Williamstown, Mass.
• About 4 miles up Route 43, watch for the sign to Jiminy Peak Ski Resort on the right. That's Brodie Mountain Road. Turn right, and it will take you past the famous ski center to Route 7 in about 3 miles.
• At Route 7, turn left and drive north for about 2 miles. Watch for the Snowy Owl Resort on the left, then the America's Best Value Inn on the right. Slow down; Mallery Road is coming up immediately on the left after the Inn, and just before a towering rocky cliff. That's our gazebo at cliff top! From Vermont and points north

• Get on Route 7 and drive south through Williamstown, Mass. Signs will guide you halfway around the town square and keep you on course. Get your camera ready; about 3 miles out of town you'll pass one of the most magnificent views in the Berkshires. That's Mount Greylock, the rooftop of southern New England; be sure to drive to the summit during your stay with us!
• Continue south on Route 7 into New Ashford. After you pass the Mill on the Floss restaurant on the left, you will see a "Mallery Road" sign on the right. Do not enter there. Drive farther down the road, you will see a long straightaway and an uphill stretch with a towering rocky cliff on the right (about 11 miles from the square in Williamstown). Slow down; Mallery Road is just past the cliff on the right. Turn right onto Mallery Road, then right at the first driveway. You'll know you're here when you see a huge slab of rock inscribed with "Shirakaba" in Japanese.

From New York City and points south

You have two options. You can take I-87, the New York Thruway, north to Exit 21A onto I-90 east, then Exit B3 onto Route 22 north to the blinker at New Lebanon. But for no trucks, no tolls, and few turnoffs for gas (fill up first!), you can't beat the beautiful Taconic State Parkway.

• Get on the Taconic from NYC via either Saw Mill River Parkway or Sprain Brook Parkway. Drive north for about 75 miles, then exit at the Route 295-Chatham sign that warns, "Last Exit Before Toll". Turn left at the stop sign, then right onto Route 295. Drive about 7 miles to the stoplight at Route 22 and turn left onto it, heading north on Route 22 for about 4 miles to the blinker at New Lebanon.
• Either way, you're at the blinker where Route 22 merges with Route 20. Turn right and pass through New Lebanon for about a mile, then stay on Route 22 where it splits off to the left. Continue north on Route 22 for another 6 miles to a traffic light in Stephentown, where you'll turn right onto Route 43 toward Williamstown, Mass.
